WhizQuiz© 2 Documentation

1. Creating a WhizQuiz© Quiz (or Becoming a WhizQuiz© Whiz)

A WhizQuiz© Quiz has 3 different parts: a Quiz page (Fig. 1.1), a Results Page (Figs. 1.2 and 1.3) and an Information page (Fig. 1.4). The Quiz page is the page that presents the quiz questions and answer choices. The Results page is automatically created and displayed when the quiz-taker submits their quiz to be graded. The Results page can present the correct answer for each question, feedback about why a particular answer choice was wrong, links to resources for more information or remediation, the overall quiz grade, and a grade for each section of the quiz. The quiz Information page is a short page that presents a description of the quiz and its author.

A WhizQuiz© Quiz is most easily created by starting with an existing quiz file and modifying it. The easiest way to learn how to create a quiz is to look at existing quizzes and associated quiz files and see how they were made (see the Demo Quizzes).

Figure 1.5. An example of what WhizQuiz© tags look like.

A quiz file (Fig. 1.5) is a text file similar in format to an HTML document. It consists of tagged information for representing questions, answers, responses and other required data. A quiz file is divided into several sections. The major sections are the Quiz Header and Quiz Body sections. The Header is where many of the tags that control the formatting and functionality of the quiz are placed. The Body contains the questions, answers, and feedback. Other quiz sections include the Description, Instructions, Banner, Extra Header Info, and Extra Body Info sections. Each of these quiz sections and the tags they can contain are described in the Quiz Tag documentation available from the pull down menu in the purple bar above.

Each of these sections is designated by a "tag" or "tags". For example, the tags, <QHEAD>...</QHEAD>, are the opening and closing tags of the Quiz Header Section. Within each of these sections other WhizQuiz© tags may be used to specify the functionality and formatting of the quiz and to include the questions, answers, feedback, and grading information.
