You can find out how CALS intends to meet it's land-grant mission

The idea of a Future Farmers of America (FFA) program was proposed at
Virginia Tech in 1925.
The formulation of FFA began in 1925 when the State Supervisor of
Agriculture said at Virginia Tech:
"... Let's form an organization that will give [farm boys] a greater
opportunity for self-expression and for the development of leadership.
In this way they will develop confidence in their own ability and
pride in the fact that they are farm boys." FFA is now a national
co-educational program.

One of Virginia's Agricultural Experiment Stations is located on the farm
where Cyrus McCormick invented the first successful reaper.
The mechanical reaper opened a new era in agriculture, an
age of mechanization that changed life on the farm, altered American
advertizing, and made it possible for millions of people to leave the
land and enter an industrial society. You can tour the McCormick farm
at the Shenandoah Valley AREC.
